What is Therapeutic Dungeons and Dragons?
Therapeutic Dungeons and Dragons is a group using the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons to work on some issue that might be more difficult to address in traditional therapy. Maybe you need to practice a skill that’s hard to do in a regular therapy office. Maybe you need to try out some identity change in a game before you do it in real life. Maybe you want to learn more about yourself and how you face challenges. Maybe you just need to put a little more distance between you and whatever issue you’re working on and setting it in a medieval fantasy world just might be enough distance. Therapeutic Dungeons & Dragons could be for you!
What groups are available?
Currently, we are just collecting names for a waitlist for groups. We have offered pre-teen and teen groups in the past and we are looking at offering adult groups as well. We have done groups that meet regularly in an ongoing capacity, but are also looking at offering one- or two-day “intensives.” Reach out if you’re interested!
What issues can someone work on in group?
Since this is a fantasy world, it gives us a lot of flexibility! We’re open to seeing if any issue would “fit.” We’ve had people work on social anxiety, anger management, impulsivity, conflict between parts of self, identity concerns, and many other issues.
What does it cost?
Assessment and treatment planning can be billed to insurance, so that cost would be based on your insurance. Dungeons & Dragons itself cannot be billed to insurance, but we do offer some sliding scale slots. Cost depends on what kind of program is available, but often ranges from $50-75 per hour per person.
